"Qualify" Sequence Template

The setup of a sequence template is explained using the "Qualify" sequence as an example. The terms "Engine" and "Cluster" are very important for understanding the sequence setup. For that reason, these terms will now be explained in more detail.

The generalized term "engine" describes a functional component in a workflow that can edit or output the documents in some form. For example, devices like presses, platesetters or proofers are engines that can output the job data to a medium. Software components like Normalizer or InkZoneCalculator (calculation of ink consumption) are engines that edit job data or supply data for processing or for printing. You can enable or disable single functions in the sequence settings or also set specific values.

A "cluster" is the grouping of all functional elements ("engines") of one kind that are in the system. You can view the clusters in the "System" tab by clicking "Show Clusters". You then see a list of all the clusters. A list with all the engines that are part of the cluster expands when you click the small triangle in front of the name. In the sequence settings, you can select a specific engine in the cluster in the "on" list box, providing that several engines are available. Then the steps set in the sequence are run with this engine. It is important that all the engines in a cluster are totally identical. For more information regarding clusters, please refer to: Clusters.

What do I need a "Qualify" sequence?

Documents ("content data") run through the first steps of the Prinect Integration Workflow in this sequence. In the Qualify sequence, the documents are checked and prepared so that you have "normalized" PDF documents after this sequence. "Normalized" PDF documents ensure that an error-free run of the Prinect workflow is extremely certain.
