"Split Document" Option

Input documents are split into several PDF document parts when this option is enabled. This option affects job processing only if the print job has PDF pages of different sizes, for example, if several different-sized documents are selected by multiple selection and submitted to a PageProof sequence with a "Scatter Proof" output. In this case, enabling the "Split Document" option makes sure that the document pages are positioned on the scatter proof sheet in their original sizes.

If "Split Document" is not enabled in such a case, each document page is positioned in a box whose size is derived from the largest page. This can result in large amounts of paper being wasted.

Splitting only makes sense for documents with several hundred pages. It leads to considerably slower processing times and, for that reason, you should only select it when splitting is absolutely necessary.

"on" list box

This is where you can select the DocumentSplitter engine that will be used to split the documents. Generally, you can use the default setting "AllDocumentSplitters".

Split PDF files

This option lets you select the criterion used for splitting the documents:

Number of Pages per File: This is where you set how many pages a new document part will have. If you enter a '1', a document part will be created for each page.

Note: When documents are split using "Number of Pages per File", a postfix is added to the file names of the split files based on the scheme "_p<pagerange>", even if the document was split into single pages (Number of Pages per File = 1).

Approximate Size per File: The desired file size of the document parts is the criterion for splitting. This option is advisable if extremely large input documents are going to be processed. In principle, documents are split at the transition between two pages. For that reason, the document parts do not have exactly the file size set.

"Include PDF Page Numbers" option

When you enable this option, the PDF page numbers of the original files are inserted into the file names of the split files.

The number of pages is entered instead of the PDF page numbers when this option is disabled.

Example: A PDF document named "test.pdf" has four pages numbered 200 thru 203. The document is to be split into single-page PDF files. When this option is enabled, the four single-page PDF files are named as follows: "test_p200.pdf" thru "test_p203.pdf". When this option is disabled, the files are named "test_p1.pdf" thru "test_p4.pdf".

With this option, documents with pages whose numbering starts, for example, with page 200 are assigned automatically to page lists after being split with CSV (Excel CSV format) or APA (Automatic Page Assignment) rules.

Split PDF/VT files

This option lets you select the criterion used for splitting PDF/VT files:

Number of Records per File: This is where you set how many records a new document part will have. If you enter 1000 in this box, the PDF/VT file will be split into several files each with 1000 records.

Number of Pages per File: This is where you set how many pages a new PDF/VT document part will have. PDF/VT document parts each with 2000 pages will be created if 2000 is set in this box.

Note: Splitting very large PDF/VT documents can speed up output in digital printing.
