Selection of the "Connect"

You can select a "Connect" in the "on" list box for each of the two options "ShapeDefProduction" and "DieLayoutProduction". You should select one of the following two items, depending on which workflow variant you will use:

PDConnect1 on [PrinectServerName]:

If you select this item, the DesignCreation sequence will be set up for a manual workflow. This means that the shape and die layout will be created manually with Package Designer. After a packaging preproduction job is created and a DesignCreation sequence added, this job displays in the job queue in Package Designer and can be selected and edited there by the user.

A manual workflow is preferable, for example, if there is no packaging MIS. You can find the result of the CAD processing in the Prinect job folder in "PTJobs\Jobs\[jobgroup]\[jobname]\PackageDesigner".

PDConnect2 on [PrinectServerName]:

If you select this item, the workflow is enabled with automatic creation of the shape and die layout. "Automatic" means in this case that Package Designer works in the background and the shape and die layout are created without a user. The automatic mode is required especially if preproduction jobs are created by an MIS. In this case, the MIS supplies the information that Package Designer needs such as:

·the box number (from the ECMA, FEFCO or EngView catalog)

·the dimensions of the packages

·the printing material properties (material name and/or article number and/or material quality).

To be able to calculate the die tool layout, Package Designer "knows" the data of the machinery in the print shop (e.g. the maximum sheet size of the dies).

After the shape and die layout are created, Package Designer sends the created data to the Prinect Manager that then passes this on to the MIS. In the MIS, the data are used for calculating an estimate. A production job may eventually result from this later.

Note: The automatic mode can also be required for manual packaging jobs. Like with manual editing, the result of the CAD processing is found in the Prinect job folder in "PTJobs\Jobs\[jobgroup]\[jobname]\PackageDesigner".
