Work Type

What is a Work Type?

A work type is an identifier for an activity that provides information about the cost factor. Typical work types are "Normal", "Internal" and "Customer". They are designed for calculation and job costing on a connected Management Information System (MIS).

The operator sets the work type before an activity is run (e.g. printing an operation, imaging/re-imaging a plate, etc.) and this is then submitted to the MIS.

Work types are particularly important if unforeseen costs arise like for example, damage to a plate. In the case of re-imaging, the operator can send the reason for it to the MIS via the work type (e.g. "Internal").

Where Are Work types Recorded?

Work types are generally recorded before an activity is run (e.g. printing an operation, imaging/re-imaging a plate, etc.).

The following example shows the "Reprint Assistant". The operator can choose between five work types in this dialog. The two lower ones are custom work types.

What Work Types Are There?

In Prinect there are three predefined work types: "Normal", "Internal" and "Customer". These are the names selected by the customer.

In the system, they are filed as "Original", "Rework" and "Alteration". They are sent to the MIS via the JDF this way.
