Note: If you select an element (surface or sheet) in versioned layouts and edit the only variable color attribute, "Target", in the "Colors" tab, a warning appears (unless all variants of the element are selected at the same time), drawing your attention to the fact that the change will be applied to all further variants of the element.

Context menu for the "Target" column

This is where you can assign a plate ID to the colors of the job, among other things. In particular, you can choose between "Full Varnish" and "Spot Varnish" for the varnish properties. These properties mean:

Full Varnish:

A "Full Varnish" color is ignored during CTP output (no plate is created) but it is still assigned a color code. This color is designed for varnishes that will be applied to the entire surface of the printed result (all color separations), without being assigned to a specific color separation. Accordingly, no plate ID is assigned on principle to full varnish.

Spot Varnish:

A "Spot Varnish" color is applied to a certain color separation after printing. This means that the varnish is assigned to a certain process color. A plate is not generated from a spot varnish as well, however a spot varnish is assigned to a specific plate. Accordingly, a plate ID is assigned automatically to a spot varnish.

If a color whose plate still does not have a plate ID is set to "Spot Varnish", a dialog displays where you must enter the missing plate ID. This plate ID must be unique. In other words it must not be the plate ID of a separation that is not a spot varnish. This is included in the "Assign Plate ID" dialog. A warning displays if applicable. If a spot varnish plate ID was already assigned, you can assign this plate ID to another spot varnish color.

Note: You decide between "Full Varnish" and "Spot Varnish" only at this point and not in the "Colors" section. Only the "Varnish" property is assigned there.
