"AutoSheet" Sequence Template

You can use the "AutoSheet" sequence in an automated workflow to assign document pages to page list placeholders of a sheet layout and afterwards to submit the imposed layouts to a sheet output sequence (ImpositionProof or ImpositionOutput) or to an ImposePDF, SendImposedPDF or SendBookletPDF sequence. In this process, sheet layouts can be added to the job automatically, for example, via an "AddLayout" sequence. The "Layout Preparation" option lets you add layouts that were created with the Prinect Imposition Editor to the job if you only need simple sheet layouts.

The following steps are available in the "AutoSheet" sequence template:

"Layout Preparation" option

"Automatic Sheet Output" Option

"Accept approved pages only" Option

When this option is checked and the "Approve Page" option is also checked in the preceding sequences, the pages are assigned automatically to the sheet layout only if the pages have "Approved" as their production approval status. Processing stops if you try to assign pages that were not approved and an appropriate message displays.

"Layout Preparation" option

You can set up that a layout created with the Prinect Imposition Editor will be used in the "AutoSheet" sequence if you enable this option. The Prinect Imposition Editor is an Acrobat plug-in that is installed with the Prinect Cockpit software as part of the Prinect PDF Toolbox. You can use the Prinect Imposition Editor to create sheet layouts in Acrobat and save them as layout scheme files (.jdf format). You can select such a layout scheme file with "Browse" in the "Use Prinect Imposition Editor Layout" box. These files must be filed in the "PTConfig" folder of the Prinect server. By default, the "PTConfig\SysConfig\Resources\ImpositionEditorLayoutTemplates" folder is set.

In an automated workflow, the pages that are sent to the "AutoSheet" sequence are assigned automatically to the page placeholders of the set layout scheme.

"Automatic Sheet Output" Option

In this step you can define when the sheet layouts will be submitted to the next sequence.

"Forward Whenever .... is Complete" list box

The sheet layout is submitted if one of the following conditions is met:

when a layout is complete with pages,

when a sheet is complete with pages or

when the front or back of a sheet is complete with document pages.

Note: You must enable "Forward Whenever a Layout is Complete" if you wish to use the "AutoSheet" sequence in an automated workflow where the sheet pages are submitted to an "ImposePDF", "SendImposedPDF" or "SendBookletPDF" sequence. If you don't, the "Entire Layout in One File" option in the "Imposition" step will not be applied.

"Forward only when all Pages have been Approved" option

If you set this option, the layouts will be submitted to the next sequence only if all the assigned pages are marked as "Approved".

"Forward only when the Layout Part has been Approved" option

If you set this option, the layouts will be submitted to the next sequence even if only some of the assigned pages are marked as "Approved".

"AutoPage" Sequence Template

You can use the "AutoPage" sequence in an automated workflow to submit document pages with assigned page list placeholders to a subsequent sequence. This sequence is designed solely for an automated workflow to automate the manual work of submitting pages.

Pages that must be assigned suitable page list placeholders are submitted to the "AutoPage" sequence. In an automated workflow, the "AutoPage" sequence can be connected on its 'Out' side to all page-specific output sequences. Such output sequences are, for example, "PageProof", "PageOutput", AssemblePDF", "SendAssembledPDF" or "PagePrint".

"Accept approved pages only" Option

In the "AutoPage" sequence, you can enable "Accept approved Pages only" like in output sequences. When this option is enabled and the "Approve Page" option was also checked at an earlier stage in the workflow, "AutoPage" submits the pages only if the edited pages were checked and released by setting "Approved" as their production approval status.

"Automatic page list output" Option

"on" list box

This lets you select which engine will be used for automatic page list output. Generally, you can use the default setting "AllPageOutputs".

"PDFEdit" Sequence Template

This sequence lets you deliberately interrupt the automated run of your job processing at a particular point in the workflow to open and check documents pages with Acrobat and, if necessary, to modify them. You can use Heidelberg plug-ins (e.g. PDF Toolbox) for editing with Acrobat, for example, to remove trap lines. You can comment this scheduled work and then reconstruct the comments in the job history.

In "Comments", you can open a text box with "New" where you can type in a comment about PDF editing. A new comment line is created each time you click "New". You can delete a marked comment line with "Delete". These comments are intended to describe the tasks that will be done during PDF editing. Work that is scheduled with the "PDFEdit" sequence is always done on document pages.

The workflow pauses when job processing has progressed as far as the "PDFEdit" sequence. The status "Needs Attention" (two diagonal green lines) displays in the status panel in the "Pages" group in the "Prepress" tab if the print job is open in "Jobs". You can edit the PDF documents in this status.

To open a page with Acrobat, double-click the appropriate page (or use "Open" in the  context-sensitive menu). First, the "Continue Element Processing" dialog opens and shows you the comments that you entered in the sequence settings. At the same time, the page is opened in Acrobat. Now do the work you scheduled and save the document. After you close the Acrobat window, you can edit and/or add to the comments in the "Continue Element Processing" dialog. The dialog closes after you click "Continue..." and job processing resumes. If you did not save any changes to the document in Acrobat, the "Continue Element Processing" dialog closes automatically when you close the document in Acrobat.

Note: The "Continue Element Processing" dialog remains open in the background while you are editing the PDF document. Use this dialog only after you have edited the PDF document and saved your changes.

The "Halt Page Tracking" dialog displays when you click "Cancel" during editing. Make sure to heed the notes shown there. System information about editing the PDF document is lost if you cancel editing nevertheless and your job is in an undefined state. This is indicated by the status "Needs Attention" in the status panel. You cannot delete such a job. If this happens, you can open the PDF document again with a double click on a page item, repeat editing and then save and close the document. Afterwards, close the "Continue Element Processing" dialog with "Continue...". If you don't wish to edit the PDF document but just want to view it in Acrobat, mark the document in the list of pages and select "Continue" in the context-sensitive menu. Then the process is concluded in a consistent state.

"Interaction" Sequence Template

This sequence lets you deliberately interrupt the automated run of your job processing at a particular point in the workflow to perform manual work with external applications that cannot create JDF data. The "Interaction" sequence is designed to plan work that will be done with document pages. You can comment this work and reconstruct the comments in the job history.

"Manual Labor" Option

In this group you can open a text box with "New" where you can type in a comment about the manual work. A new comment line is created each time you click "New". You can delete a marked comment line with "Delete". These comments are intended to describe the tasks that will be done with external applications.

The workflow pauses when job processing has progressed as far as the "Interaction" sequence. The status "Needs Attention" (two diagonal green lines) displays in the status panel in the "Pages" group in the "Prepress" tab if the print job is open in "Jobs". You can edit the PDF documents in this status. You must open the documents in Windows Explorer or from the external application because you cannot start external editing in the Cockpit user interface. You can access the documents in the file system of the Prinect Integration server in the path "PTJobs\Jobs\[username]\[jobname]\System\Pagefiles\Current". Using the "Browse" button you can open the appropriate job and search for the folder you want. "[username]" and "[jobname]" are placeholders for the appropriate identifiers in your system configuration.

After editing is finished, mark the edited pages in the open job in the Cockpit in "Prepress > Pages" and click "Continue...". The "Continue Element Processing" dialog opens and shows you the comments that you entered in the sequence settings. You can edit and/or add to these comments.

Job processing resumes when you confirm the dialog with "OK".

"PageOutput" Sequence Template

Imaging of single pages is controlled with the "PageOutput" sequence. "Layout Preparation" gives you the option of defining sheet layouts in this sequence and imposing pages for high-resolution output if no other suitable layout is available.

IconNote02218.jpg

Note: Because you can define sheet layouts in the PageOutput sequence, you do not have to use a supplementary AutoSheet sequence in the workflow for jobs that do not have sheet layouts (as was necessary in earlier versions of the Prinect Manager).

You can also use the "PageOutput" sequence, for example, if there is no layout scheme available for a sheet layout.

IconNote02221.jpg

Note: The settings that are possible in each parameter group can vary depending on your imagesetter. As a result, some parameters may be shown but they cannot be selected. In such a case, the device selected doesn't support these parameters.

You can run the following steps in the PageOutput sequence depending on the configuration of your Prinect Manager:

"Accept approved pages only" Option

"Split Document" Option

"InRIP Trapping" Option

"Layout Preparation" option

"Imposition" Option

"Rendering" Option

"Calibration" Option

"Screening" option

"Sheet Preview Generation" option

"Halftone Soft Proof" Option

"File Output" Option

"Image Setting" Option

"Destination" Option

"on" list box

An output device that you select in one of the following parameter groups, "Color Conversion", "Trapping", "Layout Preparation", "Imposition" "Rendering", "Calibration", "Screening", "Sheet Preview Generation", "Halftone Soft Proof", "File Output" or "Image Setting", is used at the same time in all of the above options. In other words, the parameters affect the selected device and the device is used for output in this sequence.

"Accept approved pages only" Option

Besides the "Approve Page" or "Approve Imposition" options, you can also check the "Accept approved Pages only" or "Accept approved Surfaces only" option in output sequences, e.g. in a PageOutput sequence. When these options are checked and the "Approve Page" or "Approve Imposition" option is also checked in the preceding sequences, your data is printed only if the pages or surfaces have "Approved" as their production approval status.
