In this group, you can set different parameters that can be used to modify the combined PDF pages, for example, to prepare the pages for proofing.
"on" list box
This lets you select which engine will be used for combining the PDF documents. Generally, you can use the default setting "AllDocumentCombiners".
"Replace page content by page preview for Prinect Signa Station, if available" option
If this option is enabled, the page contents of the PDF documents are replaced by page previews for Prinect Signa Station that were created in the "Preflight" step in the "Qualify" sequence (see "Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat and Signa Station" option). These preview images have a lower resolution than the original images and accordingly do not produce such high-quality printouts but do speed up document processing.
"Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat" option
When this option is enabled, additional, low-resolution images of images that are in PDF documents are created for a fast view in Adobe Acrobat and are integrated into the PDF documents. These alternative images in monitor resolution display on the screen instead of the high-resolution images when you open the documents in Acrobat. This speeds up opening of the documents. The high-resolution images are used for printing or for viewing the images scaled up.
Note: In the Prinect Cockpit, you can open a preview of a document in Acrobat, for example, by double-clicking the document in an open job in the "Jobs" section in the "Pages" and "1ups" steps. Any alternative, low-resolution images in the document will then be used for the preview.
In "... if above" you set as of which resolution in the original images alternative images will be created. You set the resolution of the generated alternative images in "Subsample to". The default resolution of 72 dpi is adequate for most monitor presentations.
Low-resolution images may already have been calculated in the PDF pages when running through the "Preflight" sequence. If required, you can reduce the resolution of these images even further.
"Replace High Resolution Images, if Possible" option
If you enable this option, high-resolution images are removed from the documents, leaving only the alternate low-resolution images. This happens only if there are alternate low-resolution images in the documents. You can create alternate images with the "Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat" option. This option is available in the "Combine Documents" group of the "AssemblePDF" sequence or in the "Preflight" group of the "Qualify" and "Prepare" sequences.
Note: Remember that when you use this option these documents no longer have any high-resolution images as are needed, for example, for imaging or a high-quality digital print output!
You can use "Replace High Resolution Images, if Possible", for example, to speed up processing if the images have an extremely high resolution that cannot fully show to their advantage in digital printing and if alternate images are available whose quality is reproduced adequately in digital printing.
Prerequisite: High-resolution images can only be removed if there are matching low-resolution images in the pages.
"Remove traps" option
Trapping is needed to cover up flashes or color margins that may be caused by register errors when overprinting several color separations. Trap lines are not needed for proofing (except if you specifically want to check the trap lines) and only make the file size bigger. For that reason, we recommend that you enable this option for proofing.
"Remove PDF Comments" option
PDF comments that were pasted during processing of the document in the Prinect workflow are removed when you enable this option. You can set up the automatic insertion of such comments, for example, in "Normalizing" in a "Qualify" sequence.
"Add Placeholder Pages for Empty Page Positions" option
Placeholder pages (without content) are added automatically to page positions that still do not have assigned pages if you enabled this option. You can use this option, for example, for jobs in which entire brochures or books are assembled that need a defined page array (right - left) with appropriate numbering (uneven - even) for output. You should always enable this option to prevent "undefined" page list positions without assigned pages from occurring in the assembled documents.
"Clip to" option
Pages that are combined with "AssemblePDF" are trimmed to the size set in the list box if you enabled this option. The following trim sizes are available:
•Trim Box / Trimmed Size
The pages are trimmed exactly to the dimensions of the page content (trim box) if you set this.
•Bleed Box / Imposition Clip Box
The pages are trimmed to the dimensions of the page content plus a bleed allowance if you set this.
For example, this option lets you shrink pages with elements (e.g. marks) lying beyond the trim box to a defined size when you assemble them with "AssemblePDF". By doing this, you can avoid unwanted scaling during printing.
In this list box, you can select which type of PDF documents will be created from page lists (without a layout!):
•Single Pages
The PDF documents are generated as single-page documents.
•Booklets with Double Pages
The PDF documents are generated as booklets. A booklet is an imposed brochure in a double-sided layout with front and back pages. You can output the booklets with a PageProof sequence or in digital printing with a PagePrint or ImposedPrint sequence.
For large-scale booklets you can specify a page count for a booklet in "Number of Pages per Booklet". Then the whole document is split into several booklets with the specified number of pages. For example, if you want to output a document with 128 pages, you can enter that it will have 32 pages per booklet. In this case, four booklets are generated from the one document and can be bound one on top of the other. In "Number of Pages per Booklet" you can enter any number, even if multiples of 4 are advisable. The system does not impose any restrictions.
For versioned documents, this option makes it possible for you to have a preview of the versioned output without a layout. For example, if versions in four other languages are to be created for the base version of a versioned job, create a separate page list for the base version and each language version in the "Pages" step. Then submit the base version each time together with one of the language versions to a suitably configured AssemblePDF sequence: (with subsequent PageProof, PagePrint or ImposedPrint sequence). A versioned booklet is then generated, allowing you to check the versioned final output in advance.
•Booklets in Readers Spread
The reader's spread gives you a double-page preview of the booklet in Acrobat that you can scroll through on the screen.
This option lets you define how many PDF/VT data records will be in the PDF file created with AssemblePDF.
An example of this is that a customer is to receive a low-resolution, "regular" PDF document containing just one or a few data records for checking purposes.
In the Cockpit, only the pages of the first data record display in the open job. If not all pages displayed are submitted explicitly to the AssemblePDF sequence, only the pages displayed are used from all of the data records to be processed.
"Maximum Size per File" option
This is where you set how big an assembled PDF file may be (in megabytes). In the "When Maximum Size is Exceeded" list box, you set what will happen when this file size is exceeded:
|
Cancel with error: Sending of reports is canceled with an error message. |
|
Continue with warning: Sending of reports continues; an alert message displays. |
|
Ignore and continue: Sending of reports continues without any message, and the check criterion is ignored. Accordingly, any existing additional settings cannot be used if "Ignore" is selected. |
"Remove "Transparent" Colors" option.
If you set this option, all object that have such "Transparent" colors (e.g. varnishes) are removed when they are assembled from the pages. Transparent colors are not shown in the proof. You should enable this option if you wish to use the "SendAssembledPDF" sequence to combine pages for proofing.
"Remove "DieLine" Colors" option
Lines of spot color "DieLine" are important only for (imposition) proofing. They must be removed for imaging.
"Keep PDF Page Numbers" option
In Acrobat it is also possible for you to change the page numbers of a PDF document manually. These "page numbers" are actually page descriptions because they not only consist of digits but also of other characters.. These page descriptions are called "PDF page numbers" in this manual.
If you enable this option, the page numbers defined in the PDF documents are kept when you assemble your documents.
The page numbers resulting from the defined page lists are used in the assembled document if this option is not enabled.
