In this group, you can set different parameters that can be used to modify the combined PDF pages, for example, to prepare the pages for proofing.
"on" list box
This lets you select which engine will be used for combining the PDF documents. Generally, you can use the default setting "AllDocumentCombineSenders".
"Replace page content by page preview for Prinect Signa Station, if available" option
If this option is enabled, the page contents of the PDF documents are replaced by page previews for Prinect Signa Station that were created in the "Preflight" option in the "Qualify" sequence (see "Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat and Signa Station" option). These preview images have a lower resolution than the original images and the fonts too are screened with a lower resolution. Accordingly, this speeds up document processing but you get printouts where the quality is not as high.
"Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat" option
When this option is enabled, additional, low-resolution images of images that are in PDF documents are created for a fast view in Adobe Acrobat and are integrated into the PDF documents. These alternative images in monitor resolution display on the screen instead of the high-resolution images when you open the documents in Acrobat. This speeds up opening of the documents. The high-resolution images are used for printing or for viewing the images scaled up.
Note: In the Prinect Cockpit, you can open a preview of a document in Acrobat, for example, by double-clicking the document in an open job in the "Jobs" section in the "Pages" and "1ups" options. Any alternative, low-resolution images in the document will then be used for the preview.
In "... if above" you set as of which resolution in the original images alternative images will be created. You set the resolution of the generated alternative images in "Subsample to". The default resolution of 72 dpi is adequate for most monitor presentations.
Low-resolution images may already have been calculated in the PDF pages when running through the "Preflight" sequence. If required, you can reduce the resolution of these images even further.
"Replace High Resolution Images, if Possible" option
If you enable this option, high-resolution images are removed from the documents, leaving only the alternate low-resolution images. This happens only if there are alternate low-resolution images in the documents. You can create alternate images with the "Alternate Low Resolution Images for Acrobat" option. This option is available in the "Combine Documents" group of the "AssemblePDF" sequence or in the "Preflight" group of the "Qualify" and "Prepare" sequences.
You can use "Replace High Resolution Images, if Possible", for example, to create compact PDF files that can be sent easily by e-mail for evaluation on the screen by a customer.
Prerequisite: High-resolution images can only be removed if there are matching low-resolution images in the pages.
"Remove traps" option
Trapping is needed to cover up flashes or color margins that may be caused by register errors when overprinting several color separations. Trap lines are not needed for proofing (except if you specifically want to check the trap lines) and only make the file size bigger. For that reason, we recommend that you enable this option for proofing.
"Remove PDF Comments" option
PDF comments that were pasted during processing of the document in the Prinect workflow are removed when you enable this option. You can set up the automatic insertion of such comments, for example, in "Normalizing" in a "Qualify" sequence.
"Add Placeholder Pages for Empty Page Positions" option
Placeholder pages (without content) are added automatically to page positions that still do not have assigned pages if you enabled this option. You can use this option, for example, for jobs in which entire brochures or books are assembled that need a defined page array (right - left) with appropriate numbering (uneven - even) for output. You should always enable this option to prevent "undefined" page list positions without assigned pages from occurring in the assembled documents.
"Remove "Transparent" Colors" option.
If you set this option, all object that have such "Transparent" colors (e.g. varnishes) are removed when they are assembled from the pages. Transparent colors are not shown in the proof. You should enable this option if you wish to use the "SendAssembledPDF" sequence to combine pages for proofing.
"Remove "DieLine" Colors" option
Lines of spot color "DieLine" are important only for (imposition) proofing. They must be removed for imaging.
"Keep PDF Page Numbers" option
In Acrobat it is also possible for you to change the page numbers of a PDF document manually. These "page numbers" are actually page descriptions because they not only consist of digits but also of other characters.. These page descriptions are called "PDF page numbers" in this manual.
If you enable this option, the page numbers defined in the PDF documents are kept when you assemble your documents.
The page numbers resulting from the defined page lists are used in the assembled document if this option is not enabled.
"Clip to" option
Pages that are combined with "SendAssembledPDF" are trimmed to the size set in the list box if you enabled this option. The following trim sizes are available:
•Trim Box / Trimmed Size
The pages are trimmed exactly to the dimensions of the page content (trim box) if you set this.
•Bleed Box / Imposition Clip Box
The pages are trimmed to the dimensions of the page content plus a bleed allowance if you set this.
For example, this option lets you shrink pages with elements (e.g. marks) lying beyond the trim box to a defined size when you assemble them with "SendAssembledPDF". By doing this, you can avoid unwanted scaling during printing.
"Restrict PDF/VT to" option
This option lets you define how many PDF/VT data records will be in the PDF file created with SendAssembledPDF.
An example of this is that a customer is to receive a low-resolution, "regular" PDF document containing just one or a few data records for checking purposes.
The number of data records must be between 1 and 10.
If more than one data record is selected and if this results in the PDF file having to be split into several files because of the set maximum file size, the file is always split to the data record limits.
In the Cockpit, only the pages of the first data record display in the open job. If not all pages displayed are submitted explicitly to the SendAssembledPDF sequence, only those pages displayed are used from all of the data records to be processed.
Note: If you enable "Acceptance Form" and select an acceptance form, only one data record is automatically copied to the PDF document during processing, irrespective of the setup. See "Acceptance Form" option.
"Maximum Size per File" option
In this box, you define the maximum size of a file that will be sent as an e-mail attachment. The PDF file assembled with "SendAssembledPDF" is split up into a number of smaller files, with each file not exceeding the set size, if the maximum size is exceeded and if "Warning" is set as a rule. Each of these files is sent in a separate e-mail. To find out the maximum file size, you can, for example, ask the customer concerned which is the maximum file size that their mail server can handle.
It is advisable to specify a maximum file size if you are working with the standard approval because the files are attached as e-mails.
You should not set a maximum file size if you are working with Prinect Portal Services. In this case, select "Ignore" in the "When Maximum Size is Exceeded" list box. In a Portal Services workflow, splitting files is not desired except maybe for extremely large files. This would only complicate the approval process. It is also not necessary to restrict the file size because the assembled PDF files are filed on a FTP server (File Transfer Protocol). Only the URL address (Uniform Resource Locator) of the file on the FTP server is sent by e-mail to notify the customer.
"When Maximum Size is Exceeded" list box:
A file is split if the maximum size is exceeded. Whenever it is not possible to downsize to the maximum size because, for example, there is a large image on the page, an error mechanism with the following rules becomes active:
|
Cancel with error: Further processing of the document is aborted and an error message issued. In this case it is always canceled when the set maximum file size is exceeded. |
|
Continue with warning: The assembled documents are split up into a number of smaller documents when the maximum file size is exceeded; a warning is issued in this case. Pages with very large, high-resolution images may be larger than the set maximum size. In this case, either a file is created and processing continues after a warning or processing is canceled with an error. |
|
Ignore and continue: The maximum file size is not checked. All documents are processed regardless of the file size. |
An e-mail is sent for each file. Remember: If the e-mail attachment is bigger than the mail server of the recipient allows, sending the e-mail is canceled by the mail service of the recipient.
A special "Acceptance Form" is attached as a PDF document to each e-mail to make it possible for customers to send comments in a structured form to the operator of the Prinect Cockpit about documents they checked. The customer fills out this form and sends it back to the mail service of the Prinect server. Select one of the shipped documents "Abnahmeformular.pdf" (German) or "AcceptanceForm.pdf" or your own text document. You can open the documents with "Browse".
