"Actions" Tab

In this tab, you can enable HEIDELBERG and/or PitStop preflight profiles, set up how preflight reports will be created and configure preliminaries.

"HEIDELBERG Preflight Profile" group

This is where you can open the shipped HEIDELBERG preflight profiles or those you created yourself with the Prinect PDF Toolbox. Click "Browse..." to open a dialog where you can select one of the profiles installed by default. The HEIDELBERG profiles installed by default are filed in the "PTConfig" folder in the following path:

PTConfig\SysConfig\Resources\PreflightProfiles.

The file extension of HEIDELBERG Preflight Profiles is ".hpp". When you open a profile, its name and a brief description of its use display in the appropriate boxes.

When you import such a profile, the various parameters in the "Document", "Pages/1ups", "Images", "Fonts", "Colors" and "Contents" tabs have defaults that are saved in the profile. You can define preflight settings simply by selecting a profile that matches the sequence that will be used. If required, you can customize the settings by modifying the parameters concerned in the relevant tabs. You can edit HEIDELBERG preflight profiles only with PDF Toolbox; the customized settings are saved when you save the Qualify sequence. You can use a saved Qualify sequence as a template for other Qualify sequences.

"PitStop Preflight Profile and Action Lists" group

The HEIDELBERG preflight checks that you set in the "Document", "Pages/1ups", "Images", "Fonts", "Colors" and "Contents" tabs are sufficient for most cases you will use. You can enable PitStop profiles in this group if you wish to use the special features that the "PitStop Professional" software offers or if you wish to use PitStop profiles that are already created.

IconNoteNote: If you enable HEIDELBERG preflight settings as well as a PitStop profile, all preflight checks (PitStop and HEIDELBERG) are always run and the results entered into the error reports. PitStop actions always have priority if actions are to follow the checks, e.g. matching the image resolution. Only those HEIDELBERG actions that are not found in the PitStop action lists are run if actions are necessary.

"PitStop Preflight Profile" option

It is possible to use PitStop preflight profiles if this option is enabled. Five PitStop profiles are included in the shipment when you install Prinect Production. Click "Browse" to open one of these profiles. The file extension of PitStop profiles is ".ppp". The following PitStop profiles are included in the shipment:

Default.ppp:

Simple default profile

HD_PreparePreflight.ppp:

Default profile for the "Prepare" sequence

HD_QualifyPreflight.ppp:

Default profile for the "Qualify" sequence

HD_PDF/X-1a_CheckGen_Prepare.ppp:

Profile with a focus on a check for PDF/X-1a conformity, to be used in a "Prepare" sequence

HD_PDF/X-3_CheckGen_Prepare.ppp

Profile with a focus on a check for PDF/X-3 conformity, to be used in a "Prepare" sequence

The difference between the Qualify and Prepare profile is that the Prepare profile also checks the resolution of images.

You should select the "HD_PreparePreflight.ppp" profile if you wish to import a shipped PitStop profile.

The shipped PitStop profiles only issue warnings and not error messages.

Import one of the profiles provided by clicking on "Browse". The "PreflightProfiles" folder in the Prinect server environment opens automatically, displaying the profiles filed there.

IconNoteNote: You should copy custom PitStop profiles to the "PreflightProfiles" folder if you wish to use these profiles in a "Qualify" or "Prepare" sequence. This folder is located in the "PTConfig\SysConfig\Resources" folder on the Prinect server. The "PTConfig" folder is shared in the network.

"PitStop Action Lists" group

PitStop action lists contain instructions for applying corrections to the checked PDF documents following certain rules. PitStop action lists are not included in Prinect Production. You must create them with "PitStop Professional".

You can use PitStop action lists either with or without a PitStop profile in a sequence.

To add custom PitStop action lists to a Qualify or Prepare sequence, you should create a folder for the action lists in the Prinect environment, e.g. "PreflightActionLists". We recommend that you create this folder on the Prinect Production server below the "PTConfig\SysConfig\Resources" folder and copy the action list files there.

Proceed as follows to import a PitStop action list to a sequence:

1.Click "New". A new text box for an action list is created.

2.Click "Browse..." to open a browse dialog that by default shows the content of the "PTConfig" folder on the Prinect server. You can create a new folder using the "Create New Folder" button. You can toggle between "PTConfig" and "PTJobs" in the "Look in:" list box. You must create the folder below one of these two folders if you wish to create the folder in the file system (Windows Explorer) (see note above).

3.If action list files are available, select the file you want and click "Select...". The selected action list displays in the text box.

4.A new action list entry is created each time you click "New". Several action lists in a sequence are processed one after the other if you enable them. The top item in the list is processed first.

5.You can use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to change the order if there are several items.

6.You can remove a marked item again with "Delete".

Creating your own PitStop Profiles and PitStop Action Lists

The "Pit Stop Professional" software is programmed as an Adobe Acrobat plug-in. PitStop Professional offers a wide range of options for defining preflight checks for PDF documents. The check parameters are saved as PitStop profiles and you can use them in an Acrobat environment (if PitStop Professional is installed) or in a Prinect workflow sequence to check PDF documents. You can create new profiles or modify existing ones with PitStop Professional.

PitStop Professional also lets you define action lists that you can use to modify PDF documents depending on the rules that are set. For example, you can set in an action list that documents without a trim box will be assigned one that is defined.

IconNoteNote: You can find information about creating PitStop profiles and action list in the PitStop Professional documentation.

"Fonts" Section

In this section you can specify folders that the Preflighter will scan for existing fonts in order to embed them into the checked documents instead of the missing fonts.

Font Search Folders

This is where you can define folders where the system looks for fonts that will be available for embedding in addition to the fonts installed by default with the Prinect software or to the Windows system fonts. You can use inhouse fonts or those provided by customers. Proceed as follows to define a font search folder:

1.Click "New". A new text box for a font search folder is created.

2.Click "Browse..." to open a browse dialog that by default shows the content of the "PTConfig" folder on the Prinect server. You can create a new font folder using the "Create New Folder" button. You can toggle between "PTConfig" and "PTJobs" in the "Look in:" list box. You must create the folder below one of these two folders if you wish to create the folder in the file system (Windows Explorer).

3.If there is a font folder, select it without opening it and click "Select...". The path of the selected font folder displays in the text box.

4.A new font search folder entry is created each time you click "New". The top item in the list is browsed first.

5.You can use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to change the order if there are several items.

6.You can remove a marked item again with "Delete".

IconNoteNote: You can only delete fonts from the fonts folders enabled for browsing when the Prinect Production services were stopped.

It makes sense to use the same font search folders as for the Normalizer. See Font Search Folders.

"Ignore System Font Folders" option

The Windows system font folder is excluded from the search for fonts if you check this option (default). The Windows system fonts folder is located in C:\Windows\Fonts (with "C:\Windows" being the Windows system directory). It may be a good idea to enable this option because some fonts (Times, Helvetica, Arial, ...) have different versions that are in use and the system font is not necessarily the variant the customer wants.
