Process

System behavior

Prinect Production generates a new job from the imported PPF files if the job number and the sheet name(s) contained in the PPF files meet the requirements and if the option "Create Job from PPF" is enabled in the PPF import process configuration.

IconPrerequisitePrerequisite: Usually, a new job can be generated in the PPF import workflow only if the job number from the PPF file is not yet present in Prinect Production and if the "Job attachment from PPF" option in the PPF import configuration was enabled. This option should be disabled only if the respective jobs are created in an MIS.

If the prepress system generates several PPF files with the same job number but different sheet designations, Prinect Press will merge them into one job.

For a better understanding, we have listed some practical cases in the table below. The option "Create Job from PPF" is enabled or disabled in the PPF import process configuration settings in the "PPF Handler" Prinect Portal widget.

Import of the PPF file from the prepress system:

Job number already exists

Option "Create Job from PPF" is enabled.

Option "Create Job from PPF" is disabled.

1. PPF file is imported:

Job number: 01-0001

Sheet name: Sheet_1

No

The job is created automatically.

The job displays in Cockpit in the "Jobs" view and PPF Handler in the PPF list.

The job is not created.

The PPF file displays in the PPF list of the PPF Handler. As a rule, a JDF/JMF instruction (from MIS) creates the new job in this case.

2a. Another PPF file is imported:

Job number: 01-0001

Sheet name: Sheet_2

Yes

It was assigned in the previous PPF file.

The job is not created because the PPF file has the same job number as the PPF file imported beforehand. The sheet "sheet_2" is automatically assigned to the job generated beforehand.

Prerequisite: The "Create New Sheet" option must be enabled in the PPF import process settings.

2b. Another PPF file is imported:

Job number: 01-0002

Sheet name: Sheet_1

No

The job is created automatically.

The job displays in the Cockpit job list in the "Jobs" view and in the PPF input list of the PPF Handler.

The job is not created.

The PPF file displays in the PPF list of the PPF Handler. As a rule, a JDF/JMF instruction from MIS creates the new job in this case.

2c. Another PPF file is imported:

Job number: 01-0001

Sheet name: Sheet_1

Yes

It was assigned in the PPF file imported first.

The job is not created.

Case 1: The "Replace existing sheets" option is enabled in the PPF import settings: The existing sheet is replaced fully by the new sheet.

Case 2: The "Replace Surface on Existing Sheets Only" function is enabled in the PPF import settings. The properties provided by the PPF replace or supplement the attributes of existing surfaces while surface attributes already existing but not contained in the PPF information will remain unchanged.

Case 3: The option "No Replacement of Existing Sheets" is enabled in the PPF import settings: No sheets are imported form the PPF contents. No new sheets will be created if no sheets are present yet. No sheet information is imported from the PPF files and existing sheets remain unchanged if the job already contains sheets.
