"Imposition" option

In the upper "Imposition" option, you specify how you would like your PDF output, in other words, splitting up the contents into different documents, the dimensions of the target format, etc.

"Layout Orientation" list box

You can set this parameter only if "Automatic" is not enabled. The layout is oriented automatically to fit optimally on the output medium if the "Automatic" option is enabled.

You can rotate the layout manually by 0°, 90°, 180° or 270° by setting the angle you want in the "Layout Orientation" list box. This rotation will be added to any rotation angle already contained in the layout. Additional rotation of the layout may be necessary during proofing, for example, if the proofer concerned outputs the document rotated and it does not have the required paper width.

"Mirror" option

Enable this option if you wish the proof to be mirrored compared to the original when output. You can use this option, for example, if a function for mirroring output (e.g. for imaging) was enabled in the DTP application when the documents were being created and the documents you have are mirrored. When you enable "Mirror" in the "ImpositionProof" sequence, mirroring of the documents is reverted when they are output to the proofer.

"Duplex printing" parameter

You can use this parameter only if the selected proofer supports output in the duplex mode. If this is the case, you have the following options:

​•​"Off"

Only one face of the proof sheet is used, i.e. the front proof face will be used.

​•​"Tumble"

The two sides of the proof sheet are used. For example, the sheet is turned from front to back, with the page marks remaining on the page, but the front mark going to the back.

​•​"Turn"

The two sides of the proof sheet are used. For example, the sheet is turned from right to left, with the page marks going from right to left, and the front mark remaining at the front.

​•​"Tumble, back surface only"

The sheet is tumbled, the front surface of the proof page is not used but the back surface is.

​•​"Turn, back surface only"

The sheet is turned, the front surface of the proof page is not used but the back surface is.

"Clipping" group

"Clipping" option

You can use this option to trim the size of the proof on all four edges of the sheet by defined margins. This option lets you save paper and ink or toner if, for example, the important part for proofing takes up an area on the sheet that is much smaller than the total size of the sheet.

"Top margin/Bottom margin/Left margin/Right margin" let you set the trim width of each edge separately.

"Clip to" parameter

You can select one of the following options in this list box:

​•​Paper Boundaries

In proofing, only the area defined by the paper size of the offset print will be printed.

​•​enclosing rectangle of all Contents

The area printed in the proof will be restricted to the bounding box of the page size for each page placed on the sheet. Objects, e.g. marks, that are defined outside the pages are ignored during the output.

"Target size" group

"Scaling" option

You can enter set scaling factors (in percent) for horizontal and vertical scaling in the "Scaling" boxes. The sheet layouts are scaled down or up accordingly during proofing. Make sure that you enter the same scaling factor for both horizontal and vertical direction to avoid a distorted proof of the sheet layout.

"Target size" option

Use this option to define the paper size you will use for output. You can select the paper size either using the format name (e.g. "A4") or its default dimensions (width x height) in the selected unit of measure (e.g. 21.0 x 29.7 cm). The dimensions are matched automatically if you select a different unit of measure.

Type in the dimensions you want in the box for page dimensions if you need a size that deviates from the suggested dimensions. The input in the list box with the format names switches to "Custom Size" if you now change your input focus, e.g. by hitting the Tab key.

In the list box for scaling or alignment you can choose from the following settings:

​•​Scaling

The document pages are fit to the target size by scaling them to the full target size. This can result in distortions if the width-to-height ratio of the target size does not match the width-to-height ratio of the original pages.

​•​Proportional Scaling

The document pages are fit to the target size by scaling them proportionally to the target size, that is by keeping the width-to-height ratio. You can define the position of the documents in the target documents using the "Align" and "Shift Front/Back" parameters.

​•​Align

The document pages are not scaled but placed in the document in their original size. You can define the position of the documents in the target documents using the "Align" and "Shift Front/Back" parameters.

Use "Align" to define how the document pages will be positioned on the target size: Bottom/Left, Center, Top/Right.

Use the values for Shift Front/Back to define an offset in vertical and horizontal direction for the front and back pages on the target size. The reference point in each case is the bottom left corner of the target size. In other words, an input of 0.0 x 0.0 will place the pages in the bottom left corner.

"Center Sheet" group

"Center Sheet" option

You can use the settings for centering and for offset for output of the front and the back. The sheet content is centered on the print medium when output if "Center Sheet" is enabled.

The sheet content is shifted from its centered position when you enter nonzero values for the vertical and horizontal offset. In this way, you can have the front and back output exactly one on top of the other to get an accurate proof for front and back.

"When Media Too Small" group

In the "When Media Too Small" list box, you can define what will happen when a page you will output is larger than the output size of the imagesetter. You can set the following parameters:

​•​"Tile across multiple media"

The page is spread across several sheets (generally 2 or 4). You can use all the parameters except for "Clip at" and "Horizontally Centered" / "Vertically Centered" for "Clipping" when you select this option.

An input greater than zero in "Tiling Overlap" causes the single sheets of the page to overlap by the amount you entered. This parameter is useful to paste the entire page to one single sheet after printing. The overlapping part can be used as a gluing edge.

The page is centered on each single sheet when output if you selected the "Center" option.

If a document with trim marks is output, the layout of the page is based on the trim box and not on the media box.

Select the "Crop Marks" option if you wish to print special crop marks that will help you cut the single "tiles" for an exact fit to combine them later to an overall page. This does not refer to the crop marks that may be defined for a single page.

"Automatic Rotation" list box

If you selected "Tile across multiple media", this parameter allows you to match orientation of the sheet layout to the page format (portrait or landscape) of the proofer media.

Note: Automatic rotation is done only if paper is saved as a result.

​•​"Clip to Fit on Media"

You can use this option if the page is only slightly larger that the paper format. The page is centered on the media when output if you also enable the "Horizontally Centered" and/or "Vertically Centered" option for "Clipping". If these options are disabled, you can set a horizontal and vertical offset by entering values in the "Clip at" boxes. The offset values are the distance of the left edge of the page to the left edge of the medium and the distance of the lower edge of the page to the lower edge of the medium.

​•​"Scale Down to Fit on Media"

The page is scaled down to fit on the output media if you select this option. The page content is then reproduced fully, but not in its original scale. In some cases, very fine lines can be lost because of the scale-down. You cannot use "Scaling" because scaling is automatic.

​•​"Abort Output"

Output is aborted if the page is larger than the media size.

"Color Bar" group

A special proof color control bar will be output as well as the document content when you enable "Color Bar Type". The following types of color control bars are available:

​•​Standard Marks

You can select one of the following standard marks in the list box:

​•​HD Proof

A predefined HEIDELBERG color control bar will be output if you select this type. The color management set in the Prinect workflow is also applied to the color control bar if the "Use Colormatching for the Color Bar" option is enabled. You must disable this option if you are going to measure colors without color management.

​•​IDEAlliance ISO 12647-7 Control Strip 2009

This mark is used mainly in the United States. The mark is the default for GRACol and SWOP.

​•​Ugra Fogra-MediaWedge V3.0

Marks of this type (likewise variants V3.0a and V3.0b) represent different variants of the European standard wedge as offered by Fogra.

​•​Ugra Fogra-MediaWedge V3.0a

​•​Ugra Fogra-MediaWedge V3.0b

​•​Fogra MediaWedge V3.0 LFP

This is a Fogra wedge designed especially for "large format printing".

​•​User-defined Marks

You can select a custom color control bar file with "Browse" if you select this type. You can define where the color control bar will be positioned using the "Position" list box. If you set "Automatic", the color control bar will be positioned at a spot where it will use the least amount of space on the print medium. You can enable and disable color management also for user-specific color control bars.

Note: The Prinect Renderer can process color control bars only as PDFs. For that reason, the format of user-defined control strips must be PDF.

​•​Inline Certification

You can use this option only for proofers with integrated colorimeter. In the "Plate Reuse Simulation" mode, the "PDF Export" soft proofer is always enabled, making this option inoperable.

​•​"Use Colormatching for the Color Bar" option

Standard color control bars without color management are generally output to check the stability of color output on the printer. You should run such a test at regular intervals as needed. You can analyze the correct state with the Prinect Color Toolbox. You can disable this option for such test runs.
