In "Imposition", you specify how you would like your PDF output, in other words, splitting up the contents into different documents, the dimensions of the target format, etc.
•Front and Back in Separate Files
Use this option to generate separate PDF files for several product parts (generated on Prinect Signa Station). If you have a versioned output of booklets that are made up of gang run forms of different product parts, there may be product parts with useful page numbers (e.g. 60 pages) and those that are not useful (e.g. 0 pages). When output to a file ("Split into files suitable for binding" does not work if there is more than one product part), the pages of different product parts would be output unsorted and would then have to be sorted manually after printing.
This option makes sure that each job with a number of product parts is split into separate PDF files, enabling the product parts to be separated properly.
•Front and Back in one File
A joint PDF file is generated for the front and back pages of each sheet if you select this option.
•Entire Layout in One file
The entire layout is saved to one (booklet) PDF file if you enable this option.
•Split into files suitable for binding
You can use the "Clip to" and "Bleed" parameters if you select this option. The output files are created so that they have a page size corresponding to the size of the trimmed paper sheets. This makes it possible to output these PDF documents to single-page printers so that a multiple-page sheet output with a subsequent trim is simulated.
"Entire Sheets, Folding Sheets, Double Pages, Single Pages, Readers Spread" list box
•Entire Sheets
If you enable this option, your output file will contain "entire sheets", i.e. not only will they have the pages but also their parameters such as punches, marks, etc. All the fronts and backs are also contained in the output files, for example, there will be 16 pages in an 8up layout.
•Folding Sheet
The pages are imposed as single-page folding sheets.
•Double Pages
The pages in the output PDF document will automatically be imposed as double pages if you select this option.
Example: You are editing a 16-page A4 layout, for example, and will output it double-sided to an A3 proofer. After output, you want the document to be folded and stacked so that you have a brochure, for example, as an advance copy, where front and back are assigned correctly.
•Single Pages
The pages in the edited documents will be imposed as single-page PDF files if you enable this option. For example, you can check the reader's spread as the single-page PDF files are sorted after they are arranged in the sheet layout.
Note: "Single Pages" must be enabled if the "Imposition" option is used in a "SendBookletPDF" sequence in conjunction with Portal Services, for example, for approval of versioned jobs.
•Reader's Spread
You can use the "Clip to" and "Bleed" parameters if you enable this option. The output files are created so that the layout pages display as single and double pages in the reader's spread in the PDF file, for example, pages 1, 2- 3, 4- 5, 6- 7, 8.
"Clip to Paper Area" option
The size of the created PDF documents is confined to the trim box if you enable this option.
"Clip to" list box
•Trimmed size
The page size of the output PDF files is clipped to the size of the trim box. In other words, the pages are output without the trim in their net final size. This clipping can be made bigger by the "bleed margins".
•Imposition Clip Box
The page size of the output PDF files is clipped to the size of the bleed box. The pages are output in the size of the trim box plus the trim. This clipping can be made bigger by the "bleed margins".
•Trimmed Size with Creeping
Prerequisite: This option affects single pages only. This means it is available only if the "Single Pages" option is enabled.
Creeping: If, for example, a saddlestitched magazine has a great number of folded pages that are nested and then bound in a printing unit, the paper thickness causes the inner pages to shift outwards, in other words away from the spine. If the magazine is trimmed after binding, the inner pages will have narrower outer margins than the outside pages. This effect can be counteracted by setting "creeping" in the layout definition. The creeping value causes the inner pages to move towards the spine (back margin) and compensate the effect caused by the paper thickness.
The pages are output without a trim if you select "Trimmed Size with Creeping". The page contents move towards the back margin by the amount set for the creeping value. This can result in part of the page next to the layout becoming visible in the back margin, depending on the creeping value defined in the layout.

"Bleed Top/Bottom/Left/Right" boxes
In these boxes, you can define additional bleed areas which will extend the output size of the PDF files. This allows you to check, for example, whether punches or marks fit or whether the adjacent page abuts properly. The pages are output without any additional bleed if you enter 0.0 in each of the boxes.
"Target size" option
Use this option to define the paper size you will use for output. You can select the paper size either using the format name (e.g. "A4") or its default dimensions (width x height) in the selected unit of measure (e.g. 21.0 x 29.7 cm). The dimensions are matched automatically if you select a different unit of measure.
Type in the dimensions you want in the box for page dimensions if you need a size that deviates from the suggested dimensions. The input in the list box with the format names switches to "Custom Size" if you now change your input focus, e.g. by hitting the Tab key.
In the list box for scaling or alignment you can choose from the following settings:
•Scaling
The document pages are fit to the target size by scaling them to the full target size. This can result in distortions if the width-to-height ratio of the target size does not match the width-to-height ratio of the original pages.
•Proportional Scaling
The document pages are fit to the target size by scaling them proportionally to the target size, that is by keeping the width-to-height ratio. You can define the position of the documents in the target documents using the "Align" and "Shift Front/Back" parameters.
•Align
The document pages are not scaled but placed in the document in their original size. You can define the position of the documents in the target documents using the "Align" and "Shift Front/Back" parameters.
Use "Align" to define how the document pages will be positioned on the target size: Bottom/Left, Center, Top/Right.
Use the values for Shift Front/Back to define an offset in vertical and horizontal direction for the front and back pages on the target size. The reference point in each case is the bottom left corner of the target size. In other words, an input of 0.0 x 0.0 will place the pages in the bottom left corner.
"Rotate Back by 180° for Tumble" option
You can select this option only if "Front and Back in One File" or "Entire Layout in One File" is enabled in "PDF Output". The backs are rotated by 180° if you enable "Rotate Back by 180° for Tumble".
"All Colors in Separate Files" option
A separate PDF file is created for each color separation if this option is enabled.
"Separations as Gray Pages (Separated PDF)" option
When this option is enabled, the color separations are not superposed in the generated PDF files as they usually are but each separation displays as a separate grayscale page.
This function is designed mainly for packaging printing. This lets you generate PDF documents as "blueprints". A "blueprint" reproduces the exact positions of the finishings of a product. You can save, for example, blind embossing, UV coating, diecutting contours and/or hot stamping foil elements to a file. An external service provider uses this file to manufacture the finishing tools. The files are output in this case as film. On the one hand, the blueprints are used to manufacture the tools and on the other to check the proofs and sheets. The latter is done by placing the film on the proofs and comparing the data.
"Add OPC Header" option
You can give your PDF output an OPC (Output Control) header if you want to output the documents generated with "ImposePDF" using Delta Technology. Output information for imaging is defined in an OPC header. This information can be processed during an output with Delta Technology. An OPC header can be generated in a Delta Technology system or at a DTP workstation using the Jobstream software.
Note: When you save generated OPC header files, you should specify the full network path (UNC path) for the location. The full path is then shown when you select the file with the "Browse..." button.
"Add Report as PDF Comment" option
A list of all the settings in the "ImposePDF" sequence is added as a PDF annotation (comment) to the edited documents if you check this option.
"If layers have transparency elements" parameter
Use this setting to define how job processing will run if the edited documents have layers with transparency elements. There may be a difference between your proof and your final output (imagesetter > press) if transparency elements are present.
You can select the following settings in the list box:
| Cancel with error: Further processing of the document is aborted and an error message issued. |
| Continue with warning: Processing continues; an alert message displays. |
| Ignore and continue: Processing continues without any message, and the check criterion is ignored. Accordingly, any existing additional settings cannot be used if "Ignore" is selected. |
