"Assign Pages" Window

In this window, you can assign selected pages (single or multiple selection) to the page placeholders of a page list.

You can open this window by selecting one or more pages in the "Pages" view and then clicking on "Assign > to page list" (F7) in the context menu. See also Changing views.

The window is divided into the following areas:

The page lists for the job are displayed in the upper area. If a page list is selected, information about the number of positions and the number of assigned positions is displayed.

In the middle section, you can configure the assignment.

The bottom section displays the positions of the assigned pages for checking purposes.

"Auto" option

If this option is enabled, the selected pages can be automatically assigned to the page positions. The following options are available in the adjacent list box:

All Positions

The pages are assigned to the page list positions, starting with the start position. If pages have already been assigned to individual positions, you must confirm a prompt. The pages that have already been assigned will then be replaced by the newly assigned pages.

Even Positions

The pages are assigned exclusively to even-numbered page positions, starting with the start position. If pages have already been assigned to individual positions, you must confirm a prompt. The pages that have already been assigned will then be replaced by the newly assigned pages.

Even Positions (fill)

The pages are assigned exclusively to even-numbered page positions, starting with the start position. Only "empty" positions are filled, i.e. positions to which no pages have yet been assigned.

Odd Positions

The pages are assigned exclusively to the odd-numbered page list positions, starting with the start position. If pages have already been assigned to individual positions, you must confirm a prompt. The pages that have already been assigned will then be replaced by the newly assigned pages.

Odd Positions (fill)

The pages are assigned exclusively to the odd-numbered page list positions, starting with the start position. Only "empty" positions are filled, i.e. positions to which no pages have yet been assigned.

Unassigned Positions

The pages are assigned, starting with the start position, exclusively to positions to which no content pages have yet been assigned (no replacement necessary).

"Start at" box

The first possible start position for the automatic assignment is preset here, based on the currently selected page position. You can define a different starting position by overwriting the value and entering a new starting position.

"Range" option

If you enable this option, you can define one or more ranges of page positions to which the pages are automatically assigned. After clicking on the "Preview" button, the numbers of the newly assigned positions are displayed for checking purposes.

Example 1: Each page is assigned to one position.

Input: 1,3-5,7

In this example, the first page is assigned to position 1, the second to fourth pages are assigned to positions 3-5 and the fifth page is assigned to position 7.

Example 2: A document page is assigned to multiple positions.

For this type of assignment, the position details are written in brackets: (2,7-11,32)

The page is assigned to positions 2, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 32.

IconNoteNote: Based on this, you can also assign a multiple selection of pages. The values in parentheses only have to be separated by commas.

Example 3: Before this window is opened, the two pages X and Y are selected. The pages X and Y are assigned to a range of page positions.

Page X is to be assigned to positions 2, 7, 32, and page Y is to be assigned to positions 1, 5, 17.

The following numbers are entered in the "Range" box: (2,7,32), (1,5,17).

"Preview" Button

After you click this button, the positions to which the pages would be assigned are displayed in the lower part of the window for checking purposes. Before the assignment is performed, you must confirm a prompt.
