Privacy Policy | Imprint | Prinect Know How | Prinect Release Notes The version number of a Prinect software — usually the version of a year version — is represented by the version of the software. It is important to know which version of the Prinect software is already installed and which version of the software to be updated to is present in order to determine which version must already be installed for a pending update. The following terms are used in an update context: •Base version: The first release version of the software in question. •Master version: A 3-digit number identifies the version of a master version or year version of a Prinect product. For example, "21.0" is the year version. •Minimum version: This is the minimum version that needs to be installed so that updating is possible. This refers to the fact that it is not possible to "skip" any number of intermediate versions during an update. See also Skipping Versions. •Previous version: This is the previous version of the version to be updated to. •Current version: This term is ambiguous: •On the one hand, it refers to the currently installed version — even before the update. •On the other hand, it refers to the latest version that can be updated to. The respective meaning results from the context. Every version number is made up of 4 blocks of numbers separated by dots each, e.g. 21.10.114.03. •Block 1: The Prinect master version or year version of a Prinect product is identified by a 3-digit number. For example, "21.0" is the year version. •Block 2: The Prinect intermediate version is identified by the 2-digit number "10". This block is used for the intermediate versions that are released between two master versions. See also Extended Versions. •Block 3: The build number can have a maximum of 5 digits. Example "114". •Block 4: The sub-build number can have a maximum of 5 digits. Example "03". There are additional extended versions for the Prinect software versions in addition to the "full" versions as of version 2019, which are identified by the extension ".10" following the version number of the master version. From the point of view of the system upgrade mechanism, these extended versions are treated as separate versions: Version . Extension 2018 . 00 2019 . 00 2019 . 10 2020 . 00 2020 . 10 2021 . 00 2021 . 10 etc. In previous versions of Prinect (up to and including version 2018.00), a system upgrade could only be made from one version to the immediately following version, i.e. "skipping" a version was not possible. For example, a system upgrade from version 2016 to version 2018 required upgrading to version 2017 and then to version 2018. When installing the intermediate version, it is sufficient to install only the absolutely necessary product updates in order to allow the upgrade process to proceed as quickly as possible. As of Prinect version 2018.00, a system upgrade can also "skip" up to two master versions and the corresponding intermediate versions. The following version skips are possible: Installed version Target versions of the system upgrades 2020.10 2021.00 2021.10 2022.00 2022.10 2018.00 X 2019.00 X X X 2019.10 X X X 2020.00 X X X X X 2020.10 X X X X 2021.00 X X X 2021.10 X X As of version 2021.10, continuous updates (Continuous Deployment) were introduced. In this context, update packages that are offered at specific intervals are grouped into "media sets". Media sets are numbered consecutively. The numbers of the media sets are appended to the name of the master version (in the example 2021.10), e.g. 2021.10.26. The type and scope of the media sets determine whether updates are installed as a "System Upgrade" or as a "Cumulative Update".
