Ganging Optimization with Segments

What Are Segments?

Segments are rectangular areas of the press sheet. They describe finishing steps, e.g. cutting, finishing (lamination, embossing, varnish) or folding.

This means that areas are defined on the press sheet where all the elements that will have a joint type of finishing are grouped together.

In this way, gang parts in a gang job that are to be processed differently can be automatically grouped and placed efficiently.

The segments are cut out of the press sheet in a first cutting process. Then the segments are processed further and only after that cut into the single 1ups in the second cutting process.

Examples:

A lamination segment has several 1ups, all of which are to be laminated in the same way. The segment is cut out of the press sheet in the first cutting operation. Then it runs through the laminator before it is split into the 1ups on the cutter.

A fold segment has several 1ups that are arranged to one another in a certain way to be able to fold them jointly. The subsequent separation is done either in the folder by a cutting knife or on the cutter.
