"Digital Printing" Step

"Digital Printing" Step

Video Tutorial: We can find videos with information about the topic of digital printing in:
Prinect DFE Starter Videos.

In this step you set up the output of pages in a print job to a digital press. You can do the following tasks:

Interactively impose (PDF) documents, page lists on a (digital) press sheet

set up the ink settings for printing

set values for delivery and finishing options and

submit the imposed press sheets to the Digital Printing Terminal or another digital front end. The press sheets are output from there in the set quantity.

In addition a CTP device can be set up and controlled as a "Digital Platesetter".

The elements of the user interface vary according to the type of device (toner-based digital press, inkjet-based digital press, CTP device) that is set up and selected. The text below will indicate to you which options are available for which output devices. You match the user interface to a certain output device by selecting the PagePrint or ImposedPrint sequence set for that output device.

Prerequisite: The following prerequisites must be met before you can set up the "Digital Printing" step:

·A digital press suitable for connection to the Prinect Manager is registered in the Prinect Manager and set up in "Administration > Settings > System" in the "CDM" (Central Device Manager) box (see Connecting Digital Presses).

·If a CTP device is to be controlled using the Prinect DFE, you must also set up this device as a CDM device ("Digital Platesetter").

·Substrates can be set with the control software of the press and also in the Cockpit in "Administration > Resources > Printing Materials and Substrates" (see Printing Materials and Substrates). Likewise, administration of plate materials is in "Administration > Resources > Plate Materials" (see Plate Materials ).

·At least one "PagePrint" or "ImposedPrint" sequence template is available for each digital printing device (or for a "Digital Platesetter") and set up for output to the connected digital press (see "PagePrint" Sequence Template or "ImposedPrint" Sequence Template). For PagePrint sequences, it is not absolutely necessary to fully set up the "Digital Printing" option in advance in "Administration". Generally it is enough to set the substrates you want or the plate size in the sequence template. You can save the settings that you make in the "Digital Printing" step in the loaded digital printing sequence template or as a new sequence template under a different name.

·The documents of the print job to be processed are added to the job and have successfully completed at least the "Qualify" sequence. We recommend that you also include a "Prepare" sequence in the processing setup of the job. If you don't, an appropriate message is issued when you go to the "Digital Printing" step. If you want to assign document pages to page lists, the print jobs have to be prepared accordingly.

·If an ImposedPrint sequence is to be used, we recommend adding an AddLayout sequence to the job and, by doing so, making a suitable sheet layout available. See "AddLayout" Sequence Template. A sheet layout must be available in the job to be able to select an ImposedPrint sequence in the "Digital Printing" step. A compatible sheet layout can be created with, for example, Prinect Signa Station or the Prinect Imposition Editor (Acrobat plug-in).

If a PagePrint sequence is used, the sheet layout is created and set up interactively in the "Digital Printing" window. This process will be described below.
