Output of variable data as sheet-fed printing

You can output variable data in the form of PDF-VT documents as a mail merge not only in page printing (PagePrint sequences) but also in digital sheetfed printing with ImposedPrint sequences. For this purpose, layout templates created with the Prinect Signa Station are used. Here, the sheet layouts are output repeatedly according to the number of PDF/VT data records.

The following basic conditions apply to this workflow:

It is possible to assign all pages of the first data record to a layout or page list.

If the data records consist of different products, a specific page range can be assigned to a separate sheet layout in each case. Example: A data record is made up of a 8-page brochure and a 2-page response card. The brochure and the response card each have a different size. The brochure can then be assigned to a different sheet layout than the response card.

It is not possible to mix content from different PDF/VT documents.

If static PDF documents, i.e. documents whose content is invariable, and PDF/VT documents are output together, the pages of the static PDF documents are repeated on each sheet duplicate.

The page or page list view with its tree structure is not available in the left pane for output with ImposedPrint sequences. Therefore, only the press sheets of the first and the last three records (with full sheet range) are displayed in the preview window. If necessary, the first and last three print sheets also display.

To prevent "cluttering" the preview, a maximum of 10 data records display with their full sheet range. It is still possible to check the print job in the preview with the displayed sheet range; the visible page ranges are sufficient for this.

The "Split into" option is dimmed for this output workflow. See "Split into" option.

The data records are automatically distributed in the "Cut & Stack" procedure. See "Cut & Stack" option.

If multiple 1ups are output, the arrangement of the 1ups is taken from the Signa Station layout (usually from bottom left to top right).

The following dynamic marks of Prinect Signa Station are replaced and shown as such in the preview view:

$[DocumentRecord]: Number of the data record the page belongs to.

$[SheetNo] or $[Sno]: Consecutive number of the press sheet 1...n.

IconNoteNote: Prinect Signa Station usually replaces $[SheetNo] as early as during layout creation.

$[SheetID]: Generated sheet ID, e.g. "FB001".
