Combine PPF files

Automatic processing

The Prinect Production workflow is basically designed for automatic processing of PPF jobs, i.e. if a prepress system transfers the processed print jobs as PPF files to Prinect Press by writing them to the PPFIn hotfolder, the PPF files are usually processed automatically according to the PPF Handler settings. Automatic processing takes place in the following cases, for example:

Combining PPF files in the Configuration dialog.

You can combine PPF files that belong to a common print job into a composite job in the Configuration dialog. See Example 1: Automatically combine separated job parts to a composite job.

Automatically combine separate PPF files containing only front and only back sides to a joint job.

You can combine separate PPF files of a print job containing only front or only back sides to a joint job with front and back sides. See Example 2: Automatically combine a PPF job containing only front sides and a PPF job containing only back sides into a PPF job containing front and back sides.

Manual processing

Occasionally, it may be necessary to manually intervene in the PPF Handler's editing processes for individual print jobs. The following examples show such cases:

Automatically combine separate PPF files containing only front and only back sides to a joint job.

You can manually combine separate PPF files of a print job containing only front or only back sides to a joint job with front and back sides. See Manually combine separate, single-page PPF files to a duplex print job with front and back sides

In the prepress system, a varnish separation was only defined for one surface. In the prepress system, a varnish separation was only defined for one surface.

Example: It may be that the varnish is only missing on one surface, or that the varnish is not present on an entire sheet. For example: the external prepress system created a printing form for the varnish for sheet 1 for a booklet consisting of multiple sheets. No varnish printing form had been created for all subsequent sheets because the same varnish printing form can be used. In this case, the varnish information in the PPF file is missing for the subsequent sheets. Then the print job does not contain the required ink presettings for the varnish. These can then be subsequently added in PPF Handler:

Add varnish separation(s) to press sheet

Correct separation allocation in versioned jobs

Add the non-versioned separations of the base version to the versioned sheets in versioned jobs
