Layout properties

The "Layout Properties" area is displayed to the right of the layout view (list or thumbnail display). This is where the various properties of the currently selected layout are displayed. The following tabs are available in this area:

"Properties". See "Properties" Tab.

"Page assignment" (only when a surface is selected),

"Colors",

"Materials" (only for selected layout or selected sheet/selected surface)

"History" (only for selected surface).

IconNoteNote: Most of the information in the "Properties" area that cannot be configured can also be found in the table of the list view of the "Imposition" step. The corresponding descriptions can be found at the following location: Columns available in the list view of the "Imposition" step. The following section only describes the parameters of the layout properties that can be edited.

"Properties" Tab

Parameters that can be used for selected layout

"Name" box

The current layout name is displayed. If necessary, you can change the name of the layout here.

"Proof Layout" option

If you enable this option, the layout is defined as a proof layout, i.e. the layout can only be printed with a proof output sequence.

Parameters that can be used for selected sheet

"Sheet name" box

The current sheet name is displayed. If necessary, you can change the name of the sheet here.

"Sheet description" box

Optionally you can enter text to describe the sheet (for information purposes only).

"Form type" parameter

You can choose between the following options:

Sheetwise (front and back)

Perfecting

Parameters that can be used with the selected surface

"Comment" box

Optionally, you can enter a comment here – e.g. notes on further processing – to describe the surface.

Information on the non-operational parameters can be found here: Columns available in the list view of the "Imposition" step.

"Colors" tab

Here you can view or edit the color settings for the selected element, i.e. change the target of the color settings or measure spot colors using a printed sample (if a suitable colorimeter is connected). See also "Colors" Group.

Color List

You can choose between the following views:

All Colors

The table displays all colors defined in the job.

Existing Colors

The table only displays the colors that are available in the currently selected element (layout, sheet, surface).

IconPrerequisitePrerequisite: Existing colors are only displayed if pages have already been assigned to the layout, as the "existing colors" refer to the colors contained in the page contents.

IconNoteNote: If you select an element (surface or sheet) in versioned layouts and edit the only variable color attribute, "Target", in the "Colors" tab, a warning appears (unless all variants of the element are selected at the same time), drawing your attention to the fact that the change will be applied to all further variants of the element.

"Target" context menu command

This is where you define what will happen with the selected color. To do this, click on the corresponding color(s) (multiple items can be selected). Then select one of the following parameters from the drop-down list.

IconNoteNote: If you select multiple colors, the selected destination will be defined for all selected colors.

Output

The color is only output in the master version, i.e. all other versions are not output. If you want all versions to be output, you must enable the "Output (every version)" option.

Output (every version)

In versioned jobs, the color is output in every existing version.

Process

This option is only available for spot colors and causes the selected spot color(s) to be converted to process colors for output.

Ignore

The color is ignored for output.

Full Varnish:

This option is only available for spot colors. A "Full Varnish" color is ignored during CTP output (no plate is created) but the color still contains a color code. This color type is intended for varnishes that are applied to the entire print result after the other color separations have been printed. A full varnish is not assigned to a specific color separation and therefore does not receive a plate product ID.

Spot Varnish:

This option is only available for spot colors. A "Spot Varnish" color is applied to a certain color separation after printing. This means that the varnish is assigned to a certain process color (spot varnish color). A plate is not generated from a spot varnish as well, however a spot varnish is assigned to a specific plate. Accordingly, a plate product ID is assigned automatically to a spot varnish.

If a color whose printing plate still does not have a plate product ID is set to "Spot Varnish", a dialog displays where you must enter the missing plate product ID. This plate product ID must be unique. In other words it must not be the plate product ID of a separation that is not a spot varnish. This is included in the "Assign Plate Product ID" dialog. A warning displays if applicable. If a spot varnish plate product ID was already assigned, you can assign this plate product ID to another spot varnish color.

IconNoteNote: You decide between "Full Varnish" and "Spot Varnish" only at this point and not in the "Colors" section. Only the "Varnish" property is assigned there.

Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black or Spot Colors

If one of these options is selected, the selected color is mapped to another color, i.e. redirected. A color that has been assigned to another color in this way shows the property "Alias" in the "Defined" column.

"Materials" tab (only for selected layout or selected sheet / selected surface)

You can view the material parameters for a layout or surface or select a different material in this tab.

"Printing Material" Group

IconNoteNote: If the job is configured respectively, the table of the printing material properties also displays different paper types for front and back sides if applicable. Provided different paper types are used for front and back, appropriate calibrations must be available for each type.

"Width/Height Unit" list box

This is where you can change the unit of measure of the printing material properties.

"Change" button

You can find this button at the bottom of the "Materials" tab view. You may have to scroll to the bottom of the list. The "Select printing material" window opens. See "Select printing material" window.

"Edit format" button

You can find this button at the bottom of the "Materials" tab view. You may have to scroll to the bottom of the list. The "Edit paper size" window opens. See "Edit Paper Size" Window.

"History" Tab

You can view history details about the selected surface in this tab.
