Data Security

Prinect Maintenance Center — Data Security

IconNoteNote: These notes on data security apply to the PMC versions 2021.05 and higher.

HEIDELBERG offers the highest standard of security with all remote update processes for Prinect products.

Do virus scanners identify HEIDELBERG Prinect software as malware?

Sometimes, certain anti virus applications will incorrectly identify some components of the HEIDELBERG Prinect software as being infected with viruses. Depending on the configuration, the anti-virus software may quarantine the files it considers to be malware, resulting in the Prinect software no longer being functional.

The last reports of such virus infections we have received seem to have occurred after the virus definitions of BitDefender, Vipre, G-Data and F-Secure were updated. After learning about these reports, we had our installation software checked again and it was confirmed to be virus-free. We continue to aggressively pursue our activities in this respect.

To prevent interruptions in your workflow, we recommend that you configure your antivirus software to warn you about possible infections, but not to quarantine files. As an alternative, you can at least exclude the paths listed below from the virus scan until further notice:

Prinect software:

C:\Program Files\Heidelberg

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Heidelberg

C:\Program Files (x86)\Heidelberg

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Heidelberg

C:\Backup Commands

Data and configuration files:

%ProgramData%\Heidelberg

%HD_STD_USERDATA%\PTConfig

%HD_STD_USERDATA%\Hotfixes

%HD_STD_USERDATA%\Renderer

%HD_STD_USERDATA%\RendererUI

%HD_STD_USERDATA%\PrinectShooter2

...\Backup - Drive letter and path as defined in the backup configuration

HEIDELBERG is strongly committed to security issues and proactively strives at ensuring that HEIDELBERG products are safe to use and free of viruses and malware. As our development and test platforms are validated and protected with the latest security technology, we have no reason to suspect that any part of our software will be shipped with infected components. We will continue to inform you as further information becomes available.

Secure connections

The data transfer between the Prinect Maintenance Center (PMC) and the Prinect Software Center (PSC) is always triggered by the PMC, i.e. by the Prinect workflow in the print shop's system environment. As a rule, only the PMC can contact the PSC, not vice versa.

Internet standard protocol with encryption

HEIDELBERG Prinect Maintenance Center ensures data transmission by consistently adhering to Internet standards and by fully encrypting the transmitted data. This prevents the content of the data transfer from being visible to third parties. In this way, all information exchanged between the print shop's network and the HEIDELBERG network to determine the required Prinect updates remains protected. The large data volumes for the update packages are transferred via a secure https connection.

The HEIDELBERG Prinect Software Center (PSC) — Transfer Partner in the Network

The Internet destination addresses for HEIDELBERG Prinect Software Center are already saved in the software upon initial delivery. The Prinect software has been developed in such a way that only Prinect Maintenance Center can contact these destinations. Both communication partners are uniquely identified when establishing the connection. The print shop's network receives an ID that is unique worldwide, the Prinect Site ID. The HEIDELBERG Prinect Software Center computers have digital certificates, in other words, external certification that these destination addresses are really those of the HEIDELBERG Prinect Software Center.

IconNoteNote: In some contexts, the term "HEIDELBERG Service Center" is also used for the Prinect Software Center.

The print shop is always in control of update operations

The Prinect Maintenance Center only contacts the Prinect Software Center when wanted and explicitly allowed by you. To do this, you must enable the data transfer in the Prinect Maintenance Center, which is disabled by default after initial installation. By enabling the data transfer, you agree that data is transferred between your Prinect workflow system and HEIDELBERG as described above, and that you explicitly authorize HEIDELBERG to use the data to optimize its Prinect workflow system. You must also set up the Prinect Maintenance Center initially. During setup, you must log in to HEIDELBERG Customer Portal or activate this login. See PMC Setup.

Once you have enabled the data transfer function, all necessary data will be exchanged once a day between the print shop network and the HEIDELBERG network. The update packages in the PMC Repository are then made available for installation and displayed in the Prinect Maintenance Center UI.

In your system environment, you can log off the Prinect Maintenance Center from HEIDELBERG Customer Portal at any time and then disable the data transfer, thus terminating data exchange immediately. In this case, all the computers in the print shop network managed by the PMC no longer participate in the automatic update.

Authorize data transfer and enable the Prinect Maintenance Center service in the "Administration > HEIDELBERG Connection > Prinect Software Center Connection > Connect" view of Prinect Maintenance Center. See Prinect Software Center connection (4).

To log in to HEIDELBERG Customer Portal and to log out, go to the "Administration > Login to the HEIDELBERG Customer Portal" view. See HEIDELBERG Customer Portal log in (5).

Depending on the Prinect software installed, the data required for the update function is transferred.

IT security – a perpetual challenge

New challenges threaten IT security daily. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG tracks current developments and stays up-to-date on security-related matters. Heidelberger Druckmaschinen Vertrieb Deutschland GmbH also offers all of its customers in Germany – in addition to the security measures taken by HEIDELBERG itself – a comprehensive array of security products and IT services including a highly recommended firewall. Such firewall installations upstream of the network access point at the company site can reliably prevent unauthorized access from the Internet.

Secure HEIDELBERG Network

The Prinect Software Center (PSC) is located within HEIDELBERG ’s secure internal network. Access to the PSC is only granted to authorized HEIDELBERG employees via authorized computers which are connected to the Intranet. Direct access from the public Internet is possible only under the certain conditions. HEIDELBERG service technicians are using an active security card to log into the HEIDELBERG Intranet via the Internet. A unique password is generated for each access. It is only valid for this service technician, only for one connection and only for a brief time.

Data security and training

Before a service technician is given a personal user account within the HEIDELBERG organization granting access to the Remote Service, he or she is trained in matters of IT security and must sign a non-disclosure agreement. All HEIDELBERG service technicians work with standardized service PCs that are always equipped with up-to-date virus protection and modern security functions provided by the central HEIDELBERG IT department.
