Prerequisite: The "Object Editor" license is needed to work with it.

This tool known from Prinect Prepare offers you various functions for optimization of your PDF files (e.g. minimize the file size), making them optimally prepared for the next steps in the workflow.

This ranges from cleaning up redundant elements like comments and invisible objects, scaling down and compressing images up to converting texts to graphics.

Optimization of PDF/VT Data Records

Optimization can process all the data records of a PDF/VT document. The following functions of the PDF Optimizer are applied to PDF/VT files to do this:

Changes that have a global impact on the whole document (Output Intent, meta data) are removed.

Comments or page-related meta data are removed.

The resolution of images is reduced. Note that this is calculated only in the first data record for each existing image. The image resolution in the other data records is not reduced. If one of the images with a downscaled resolution is also found in another data record, reference is made to the image already downscaled.

Please note that this is done only for the first data record. If an image with a downscaled resolution is also found in another record, reference is made to the image already downscaled. For that reason, variable images are converted only in the first data record.

It does not make sense to apply operations that process page contents individually to PDF/VT files because this would destroy any option of reusing the contents. Such operations are, for example:

Removal of objects that cannot be seen

Conversion of text to graphic or graphic to bitmaps

Transparency flattening

Overview

To optimize your PDF file, first make the settings you want in the following three tabs:

"Document" Tab

"Images" Tab

"Text/Graphic" Tab

The part below is the same in all the tabs:

Optimize_Save.png

Use "Save" to save the settings you made and load them the next time directly from the list box [1]. Selecting a page range lets you confine optimization to certain pages. See Specify a page range.

Click "Apply to apply the changes in the PDF. If you hold down the Shift key when you click, you can apply optimization automatically to several PDF files. See Apply settings to several documents.

Note: Save the file after optimization using the "Save as" menu item so that the saving on disk space can be fully applied.

The pages below describe the settings possible in the three tabs in more detail.
