Job Definition Format (JDF) Support
Prinect Shooter is prepared for connection to JDF-based workflow systems such as HEIDELBERG Prinect Manager.
The exchange of data with a Prinect Manager is based on the "Job Definition Format (JDF)". For this reason, the Prinect Shooter software contains a "JDF Portal" where this interface is configured. If Prinect Shooter is connected to a Prinect Manager, Prinect Shooter sends all the device data of the connected CtP device automatically to the Prinect Manager and the CtP device is set up automatically as a new output device on the Prinect Manager. See JDF Portal.
While the data exchange with a Prinect Manager is solely via the JDF protocol, a "File Based Device Interface (FBDI)" can be used for data exchange if a connected third-party workflow system does not have a JDF interface.
Note: You can connect a number of Prinect Shooters to a Prinect Manager.
If you wish to connect a HEIDELBERG CtP device to a third-party workflow system via Prinect Shooter, the TIFF-B files must be available in a format that Prinect Shooter can process.
Prinect Shooter sends data about the imaging status and any device errors, etc. to the connected workflow system. What device data is sent, and whether you can send it at all, depends on your connected output device. The "Job Messaging Format (JMF)" is used for this. Vice versa, Prinect Manager can, for example, trigger a reprint of a single signature (plate) on Prinect Shooter.
The FBDI format and the JMF format are components of the JDF specification. Through JDF support, Prinect Shooter fits into a JDF-based overall workflow such as is implemented in the HEIDELBERG Prinect Manager.
You can link Prinect Shooter to the Prinect MDS server if Prinect Shooter is run in a Prinect system environment with a "Master Data Store" (MDS). See MDS. In this case, Prinect Shooter sends device data to the Master Data Store so that this information is available from a central source in the Prinect system environment. In addition, Prinect Shooter uses the joint user administration of the Master Data Store. See Users.
