Packaging (Packaging Pro, Label Pro)

Introduction to packaging

The "Packaging Pro" and/or "Label Pro" license is a prerequisite for the "Packaging" work mode in Signa Station.

In the "Packaging" mode, Signa Station uses one or more CAD files to arrange 1ups on a sheet. The format of the CAD file must be one that is customary for this sector like "CFF2" ("Common File Format Revision 2").

However, you can also import other formats besides the cutting die file (see "Open Cutting Die" dialog for more details about this).

The CFF2 file defines the cutting die of a 1up. When used in conjunction with packaging, the cutting die is called a "hull". A CFF2 file may contain several hulls, e.g. for different boxes.

Like in the "Montage" work mode, the "Sheet Optimization" function is also available in the "Packaging" work mode. In packaging printing, there are often cases where different articles with the same hull are to be produced in varying quantities. Sheet Optimization automates these requirements taking into account the plate size, etc. See the 'Optimization' Step for Packaging Jobs for details.

In addition, "Gang Job Packaging" is also available for packaging jobs through sheet optimization. Basically, the "Gang Job Packaging" mode works analog to "Sheet Optimization". In the "Optimization" tab, you can load the component jobs directly with the additional button, "Collect Article...".

Requirements

You purchased the "Packaging Pro" and/or "Label Pro" license for the "Packaging" mode.

The "Option Chooser" window displays when Signa Station first starts. You must set the "Packaging Pro" or "Label Pro" option in this dialog. See Licensing .

Definition of the 'Packaging' Mode

You can edit the "Packaging" mode at the following points in the application:

"Packaging" step

"Article" step (in the "Packaging" work mode)

"Optimization" step (with "Ganging Optimization > Sheet Optimization for Packaging")

"Results" step (with "Ganging Optimization > Sheet Optimization for Packaging")

Start the "Packaging Pro" or "Label Pro" option in the "Packaging" step

"Cutting Die" tab in the graphic window

Browser Window

Jobs in the "Packaging" work mode display differently in the Browser window than in the product parts.

The additional elements are:

"1up List" (instead of "Page List")

"Cutting Die" (instead of "Folding Sheets")
