Privacy Policy | Imprint | Prinect Know How | Prinect Release Notes Below, you will find out how to connect "machines" of different types having different tasks in the pressroom to the Prinect system environment. "Connect" in this context means that you register the machines in the Prinect data structures and enter key information for the Prinect processes in the Prinect set-up dialogs. Depending on the type of device, the device connections to the computers of the Prinect workflow are realized in different ways: •as network connections •as USB connections •with special high-speed connections (via Speedway interfaces or similar interfaces) for connecting CTP devices. Various protocols and formats are used for data transfer, e.g., CIP3-PPF, JDF/JMF, TCP/IP, etc. The protocols and formats used are referenced in the following description. The devices – with the exception of some digital presses – are connected to the Prinect Workflow in the Prinect Cockpit in the "Administration > System > CDM" area. The abbreviation "CDM" stands for "Central Device Manager". The new devices are created using the "Device Assistant", i.e., the properties of the devices required for the Prinect workflow are configured here. Throughput of the configuration steps in the Device Wizard means that the Device is registered in Prinect Integration, i.e. "connected" to the Prinect Workflow, and can be used with the parameterized Properties within the Prinect Workflow. The following sections describe in detail how to connect the various types of device: •Connecting a Prinect Press Center press •Connecting a Prinect CP2000 Center press •Synchronization of the PDC configuration with the press •Connect Non-Digital Long Grain Label Presses •Offline Connection of a Press •Connection of Finishing Machines •Clusters In order to be able to output print jobs with the connected machines, further configuration settings must be defined – depending on the system configuration: •In a system environment with a Management Information System (MIS): Mixed PPF / JDF workflow with MIS and external prepress system. •In a system environment with an external prepress system. In this case, data is exchanged between the prepress system and the Prinect workflow exclusively in (file-based) PPF format. You will find more information about configuring PPF data exchange at the following point: Configuring and operating the "PPF Handler". If Prinect Prepress is used as a prepress system, e.g. in a Prinect Integration configuration, communication and data exchange take place exclusively in JDF format (Job Definition Format) and not in PPF format.

Note: If not the Complete Prinect Integration System or Prinect Production is available, but only Prinect Press, for example, not all of the listed Device Types can be connected. In the Prinect License Manager, you can check which types of machine connection, i.e., which "machine interfaces" are licensed in your system environment.
