Menu command

Function

Create Layout

This command lets you create a new layout interactively with Prinect Signa Station. The following variations exist in this case:

You want to create a new (additional) layout, irrespective of whether other layouts already exist.

A layout already exists. The new layout will overwrite the existing layout. This works only if the new layout is created on the basis of MIS data.

If MIS data have been imported into Prinect Production, an MIS parameter set is displayed in the "Jobs > Layouts" view. You can use this parameter set to interactively create a new layout that matches the MIS specifications exactly. The Job Assistant of the interactively launched Prinect Signa Station then has the defaults of these MIS parameters.

Select this command to display the "New Layout" window. See also "Create New Layout" Window. Prinect Signa Station launches interactively when you set up this dialog and confirm it with "OK".

This function is equivalent to the function of the "Create" button.

Open

This command (shortcut: Command + O) starts the Prinect Signa Station interactively and opens the previously selected layout for editing. The original layout is overwritten by the changes.

Open as Copy

This command opens the selected layout as a copy in the Prinect Signa Station. You can define a new name for the layout copy in the "Open copy of layout" dialog box immediately after selecting the command.

All modifications to the layout made in Prinect Signa Station are saved in the copy. The original layout does not change.

Preview Layout

You open the layout in the Acrobat plug-in "Preview Layout".

You will find a description in Acrobat in "Help > Plug-In Help > Prinect PDF Toolbox version > Imposition Editor".

Import Layout

This command allows you to import an existing layout into the job. Importable layouts can be created in the offline workflow with the Prinect Signa Station, for example.

1.When you select the "Import Layout" command, the "Select Layout" window appears.

2.Browse the file system to the desired layout and confirm with "OK". See also "Select layout" window.

3.The "Import Layout" window will then open. See also "Import Layout" window.

The layout is imported to all selected product parts if you defined product parts.

Replace Layout

This command (shortcut: Command + Shift + CL) allows you to replace the selected layout with another layout. The name of the original layout and the sheet names are kept.

1.When you select the command, the "Select Layout" window appears.

2.Browse the file system to the desired replacement layout and confirm with "OK". See also "Select layout" window.

The "Replace layout" window will then open. See also "Replace layout" window.

Duplicate Layout

This command opens the "Duplicate layout" window. See "Duplicate layout" window.

Copy Layout to Product Part

You can only use this function if you are working with product parts or with the old versioning. This function is only enabled if at least one product part is selected. See also Different handling of product part page lists when importing versioned layouts.

This command opens the "Assign layout" window. See "Assign layout" window.

Provide Layout

This function lets you create a layout with predefined product part templates.

This command opens the "Provide layout" window. See "Provide layout" window.

Complete Layout

If you select an MIS parameter set that describes a layout and then select "Complete layout" from the context menu, the Prinect Signa Station Server is started in the background and the layout is automatically generated and completed based on the MIS parameters. The completed layout overwrites the MIS parameter set.

In this case, you cannot intervene interactively in the layout creation process. You must launch Prinect Signa Station interactively, not Prinect Signa Station Server, if you wish to deviate from the MIS parameters and make changes to the layout.

Please read the following to find details about the requirements for interactive operation with Prinect Signa Station: See Preparations for Interactive Operation with Prinect Signa Station.

Match Layout to Page Total

You can use this command (Command + E) to automatically add additional sheets to a layout if the intended page number requires this extension. In this way, a layout with two sheets, for example, can automatically be upped to 10 sheets.

When you select a layout and select "Match layout to page total" from the context menu, the Prinect Signa Station Server is started in the background. The layout is automatically expanded based on the page count.

This works only with layouts that were created at Prinect Signa Station with the "Automatic Imposition" option enabled.

Please read the following to find details about the requirements for interactive operation with Prinect Signa Station: See Preparations for Interactive Operation with Prinect Signa Station.

Create Reader's Spread

This command (shortcut: Command + Shift + CE) displays the reader's spread for a selected layout. Prinect Signa Station Server launches in the background to compute the reader’s spread.

Please read the following to find details about the requirements for interactive operation with Prinect Signa Station: See Preparations for Interactive Operation with Prinect Signa Station.

Assign > Assign Blank Page

Prerequisite: You can only use this function if at least one page list is assigned to the layout.

This command allows you to assign blank pages to the selected element (product, layout, sheet, page) or to multiple selected elements. All page placeholders of the selected element(s) will then be filled with empty pages. See Assign Blank Pages.

Note: The following is valid when you are working with product parts/versioning: In the "All" layers, an empty page is only shown if such a page is assigned to this layout position on all layers of the product part.

Assign Blank Pages

You can use the "Assign blank page" function as follows:

Case 1: Before you assign the pages

Before you assign pages to a layout, you can reserve certain layout positions for blank pages. When you assign pages, no pages will be assigned to these positions – they will remain empty.

In this case, select one or more layout positions you want and select "Assign > Assign Blank Page" in the context-sensitive menu. The page positions then turn blue in the layout and are crossed out. The assigned page list is also matched automatically, in other words, "Blank" will be found at such a page list position.

The blank page is skipped when document pages are assigned. Apart from that, the order of the document pages stays the same.

Example: Position 1 is a blank page in the layout. The first document page is then assigned to layout position 2, the second document page to layout position 3, and so on.

IconNoteNote: You can undo the assignment of blank pages by selecting these pages and then clicking "Unassign" in the context menu.

Case 2: After you assign the pages

Pages have already been assigned to the layout. Select one or more layout positions and select "Assign > Assign blank page" from the context menu.

In the "Assign Pages" dialog, you will be asked whether you want to replace the page assignments. You can choose between "Yes", "No" and "Cancel". The following situations may arise:

All the selected page list positions have assigned pages:

"Yes": The previous page assignments are lost. Instead, a blank page is assigned to all selected layout positions.

"No"/"Cancel": No blank pages are assigned. The previous page assignments are kept.

Some of the selected layout positions are assigned pages and some are not:

"Yes": The previous page assignments are lost. Instead, a blank page is assigned to all selected layout positions.

"No": A blank page is assigned only to the layout positions to which no pages were assigned. Apart from that, all previous page assignments are kept.

"Cancel": No blank pages are assigned. The previous page assignments are kept.
